Uralchem Group Explores Enhanced Cooperation with Africa at Business Forum in Namibia

Uralchem Group took part in the Namibia-Russia Business Forum, held in Windhoek on 13 March 2026.

The event brought together leading representatives from government and industry circles with a shared interest in strengthening Russia’s ties not only with Namibia, but with the African continent as a whole.

A central theme of the forum was bolstering food security in Africa. During a round table session entitled ‘Partnership in Agriculture and Logistics’, delegates discussed opportunities to increase the supply of mineral fertilisers to the region. Particular attention was paid to the potential of routing deliveries via Namibia to landlocked nations.

As a key importer of Russian fertilisers into Africa, Uralchem Group is committed to expanding supply volumes and enhancing distribution networks across the continent, with the ultimate objective of making fertilisers more readily available to local farmers.

Logistical challenges and underdeveloped supply chains remain significant barriers to the use of mineral fertilisers in Africa. Average application rates on the continent are among the lowest in the world. In recent years, the region’s average stood at around 38 kg per hectare and as low as 18 kg in Sub-Saharan Africa. There is a substantial potential to increase these figures to between 100 and 150 kg per hectare, and achieving this would mark a transformative step toward addressing food scarcity in the world’s second most populous continent.

Uralchem Group is currently undertaking systemic efforts to strengthen its footprint in western and southern Africa, with plans to broaden its operations across the continent. These efforts include field trials in several African countries to test products and design tailored application practices to improve crop yields.

Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem JSC:

Africa holds an enormous potential for agricultural growth and increased fertiliser consumption. Uralchem Group has been a reliable partner to the continent for many years, and we are ready to support the advancement of its agricultural sector by expanding logistics routes, building effective distribution, and sharing modern technologies to boost crop yields. Together with our African partners, we can significantly improve access to mineral fertilisers for local farmers, transform agricultural productivity, and help secure the continent’s food supply for the future.
